Daylilies can be dug, divided and planted as soon as they come up. Irises can be safely transplanted but may not bloom this year, hopwever if they are not up very far it is probably ok. Normanlly they are transplanted in September. Lily bulbs are available in garden centers for planting in the spring, and if you have a clump that you can fin (they are not up yet) you could dig and transplant them at this time of the year also.





I have transplanted irises at different times of the year, and haven%26#039;t lost one yet. Sometimes it takes a year for them to bloom again, but it doesn%26#039;t hurt them.

Reply:Irises should be planted in the fall. We still have snow on the ground where I live, but if it is spring where you live, it would be fine to transplant the lillies. If you are moving go ahead and try to transplant your irises.
Reply:I just transplanted Japanese Irises given to me. I do not expect a bloom this year. We need to divide and transplant in the fall in zone 8b before new growth starts.

Reply:Yes. You can transplant Iris just about anytime. Fall is the best time for lily%26#039;s. You can do it now if the foliage is very short. If it is close to blooming wait till fall.
