Should I take my cat who ingested Calla Lily Pollen to the vet?

Hi all,

If there are any of you who know the answer to this, it would be immensely helpful to me. As I was sitting at my computer desk, I turn around to see my medium sized adult tabby, Mico, licking the inside of a Calla Lily that I had on my tv stand. As far as I know, he did not ingest the leaves, just licked around the inside of the flower. This occurred about an hour ago, and he may be showing signs of lethargy (or maybe he's just being a cat). He has not vomited as of now, but the incident just occurred. Should I take him to the emergency veterinary clinic, or wait it out until tomorrow?

Thanks

Karah

Yes, the pollen is very toxic to kitties and according to this article, it can cause kidney failure.

If you cannot get kitty to the vet tonight, call one of these animal poison hotlines for advice.

Purrs to you and kitty.
Reply:DEFINATELY! All parts of all lillies are highly poisenous to cats. Take your cat to your vet or an emergency vet immediately.
Reply:If you are at all concerned, call your local Vet on call and ask for advice. No sense in risking it right? Lorie
Reply:i'd suggest calling an emergency vet %26amp; asking their opinion. while the roots of the plant are the most poisonous, all parts are poisonous to some degree. most common signs are mouth swelling, burning in mouth, stomach pain, staggering, collapse if the plant is actually ingested. i would assume the pollens would be included in the danger range, but a ER vet could tell you the protocol to follow. (sometimes, even human poison control can help out with animal questions, so there's no harm in calling them too.) they suggest for humans to rinse the mouth out, but good luck doing that with a cat, lol.
