What kind of lily is called "Tiger Lily"?
You see them growing in ditches,so they also call them ditch lilies. They are the ones that are orange, with the small dark stripes in the center.
Reply:We live in a rural area and you'll see these growing in the ditches or in the open fields. They're orange with dark stripes on them.
Reply:This is a classic example of why botanical latin is still in use today. There are a couple of different plants that we call tiger lily.


Lilium lancifolium is a true lily, native to Asia and has naturalized in parts of eastern US. The ditch lily (Hemerocallis fulva)is not a true lily and it to has naturalized in the US quite well. Depending on where you live in the states determines what one calls a tiger lily!!

Reply:Tiger Lilys are of the Day Lily variety. They are very tall and orange or orange/red. They bloom all summer
