Is a stargazer lily the same as a pink day lily?
Stargazers are Lilium orientalis that have been bred with a hybrid called 'Stargazer' which has, in turn, been bred with an unnamed seedling. Liliums have blooms that last several days.
Daylilies are Hemerocallis, and the flowers only last for a day.
The foliage of both are different as well. Daylilies have a grassy long style of foliage while Lilium has true leaves:

Most lilies planted in gardens are easily grown hybrids generally of three broad groups:
1. asiatic which are usually lower with clustered terminal upright flowers, leaves spaced around the stem rather thickly

No, an Easter Lily is not the same as a Peace Lily. An Easter Lily is in outdoor plant that blooms once a year while a Peace Lily is an indoor plant that can have blooms whenever. As for setting perenials on top of the grass and adding garden soil around them ... when it rains or you water the plants, the soil will be gone unless you have something holding it there (ex. pot, edging, etc.). The best thing to do is to remove a section of the grass -- topsoil layer and all -- plant your perenial, then put the grass back around the plant. This way the grass covers the area without there being an obvious just planted look.

It is the first year we've had them. We have a lot of lilies, they are being destroyed by these beetles. I do not wish to put any chemicals down because I have a lot of hummingbirds and beneficial bees and such in my yard. Can anyone help me rid my lilies of these evil little bugs? Is there a natural solution??

I didn't realise until i got home from work i'd leant up a vase of Lilies, i rubbed vanish onto the stain and washed it but its still there, is it destrined for the rag drawer??

The first thing to remember is to remove the stamens from the lilies....I think it's too late for your top now, next time just wrap some selotape/scotch tape around your hand to dab the pollen off - never rub, wet or brush with your hands!
You could try washing it in some bio detergent (if its washable), it's worth a try...

Lily of the Valley in pots?
I've researched "answers", but didn't find what I was looking for. Due to a physical problem, I had to plant my lilies of the valley in pots; and according to the Wayside Gardens website, pots are acceptable. Do I have to bring them in the garage or the basement for winter?

Day lillies will grow in anything but really dry arid soil.
For the proper lilies you need humus rich free draining soil. Sand would help to open up clay soil but humus would still be needed.

Reply:Lily pollen should come out easily in the wash. You can spot treat the place first with "Shout", but it shouldn't really be necessary.
I would check the stained place before putting the wet sweatshirt in the dryer, though; if the stain sets in the dryer it will be more difficult to remove.

Reply:Lily pollen should come out easily in the wash. You can spot treat the place first with "Shout", but it shouldn't really be necessary.
I would check the stained place before putting the wet sweatshirt in the dryer, though; if the stain sets in the dryer it will be more difficult to remove.

Calla Lilies: Looking for calla lily wholesale company to supply flowers for Ontario wedding?
My daughter is getting married in Ontario, Canada (York Region) and is looking for a supplier to deliver bulk, fresh, calla lilies a couple of days before her wedding in July 2007. We are going to be making the bouquets ourselves. We can find many companies in the U.S, but we can't find any that will deliver across the border to Ontario.

It's worth a try.

Crown Imperial Lily?
I would love to grow some Crown Imperail Lilies in my garden but never see them for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I can purchase these online in the UK and is it better to get the seed or bulb? Any planting/care tips would me much appreciated too, thanks.

Crown Imperials, or Fritillaria Imperialis - the correct bontanical name, are sold as bulbs in late summer and best planted early, rather than late in the autumn or winter.
You can grow from your own saved seeds, but this can take many years, whereas decent szed bulbs will flower the following spring, from planting.
They're normally found as red or yellow, each has a 3rd part to their name, which denotes colour.
Plant them on their sides, with the little hole pointing sideways, as these bulbs can rot easily. Also, place some gritty sand underneath, to help with this too. Fertilise well following flowering, to help the bulbs build themselves up ready to form the flowers inside of them, ready to grow up for your delight the following spring.
I've loved them, even their mousy smell, since I was a little kid. Most garden centres start stocking from late August, I haven't purchased from the internet or catelogues.

Planting a lily garden?
lilies are my favorite flower, so i want to make a little garden for lilies. i have a good sized area, it currently holds about 18 dead rose bushes that my house came with. i already have mixed oriental lilies, but i was wondering which to plant with it. i have a budget, so i want to start with only about three types and then add to it each year.i have to plant them this week or it will be too late.
what do you reccomend i plant? i live in texas, so if anybody is familiar with what types will grow best, id be grateful.

Peace Lily - not looking so peaceable! - Help please?
I was given two peace lilies when I moved into my house a year and a half ago. For some reason, over the last few months I have struggled to keep it looking healthy and have not had any flowers for some time.
I am not green fingered and tend to neglect plants as I forget about them..but I have tried hard with these as they are so lovely.
The leaves are still kind up, but the tips of many are browned, and the colour of some of the leaves is changing. There are lots of new shoots coming up and I suspect I need to repot now, but I wondered if anyone had any tips?
Where should peace lilies be kept, how often watered etc.

You need to give them a rest, Lilies need a dormant period before they'll flower again.
Put them outside in a cool, shady spot and keep the soil moist but not wet. Protect them from squirrels and strong, dry, winds.
Don't fertilize for a while. The old leaves will fall off and new growth will start soon after.
When they start to send up new leaves, put them in a semi-shady spot for a week before moving them to a sunny spot. Then fertilize with a mild solution when ever you water.

Like most flowering plants, Lilies flower best when they are slightly pot bound, so wait until you get multiple flowers before repotting.
Last year for the first time my Peace Lily sent a shoot up that was at least 3 feet tall before it flowered. Weird, but what a flower!
Reply:Brown tips mean the air is too dry and you can mist daily to up the humidity or get a humidifier, in the mean time just take scissors and trim the leaves in the same shape as they are now. Check and see if it is root bound and re pot if necessary, don't fertilize if you do re pot for a while, till it is well settled into it's new home. Blooming takes some sun, so put it closer to a window and if not repotting fertilize, if you want you can buy fertilizer spikes and you don't have to worry about over doing it. Peace lillies like quite a bit of water and the more crowded the pot the more water it will use. To check put you finger into the soil up to the first knuckle, it its dry, water, and always water until water runs out of the drainage holes. If you water and it just runs through, put it in a bucket or bathtub for half and hour so the plant can soak up water. If when you water, you don't give it enough the roots have to stay up near the top and the plant gets unhealthy quickly. Hope this helps good luck

when i told my friends that i love lilies, there were like "wooh, that's for the dead people!" [in the Buddhist culture?] but i LOVE Casablanca lilies. can anyone clarify this for me?

Any remedies for lily beetle,new to me in the Uk,but destroying all my lovely lilies,SOB.Please advise ASAP!!?
They are red backed brutes that are completely destroying all my different types of lilies, they look so fabulous in flower too. I have taken to stalking the the plants and inspecting them, and as soon as I find any beetles I remove them and squash them, but as soon as I turn my back reinforcements have arrived.
I feel tempted to burn all my lilies as I cannot stand to see them being slowly destroyed, it is heartbreaking.
I have tried various sprays, but no go!
Please advise me somebody, I have heard that these beetles are fairly new to the UK, and cannot find many details on them.
I am disabled,and do not get out all that much, so I love my garden,and the scent from the lilies and the beautiful flowers I will really miss.

Does anyone know the name of the Movie about a family and there's a little girl named Lily?
The plot is of how the parents fall in love and there's characters such as the little girl Lily (who later jumps out an open window), Frank, Fran, and Egg. The mom and egg die in a plane explosion on the way to come to Vienna where the rest of the family went. And in it there's a story about "The King of Mice" a street clown that commits suicide by falling out an open window which produces the saying "Just keep passing the open windows". There's quite a few sexual scenes so I bet it is rated R. And there's a woman who dresses up in a bear suite and the main characters always wonder if they will ever be able to take the bear in her out.

I am considering getting a tattoo of St Anthony. I am
not exactly "religious". I consider myself agnostic,
although raised Catholic. However, once I learned of
St Anthony, anytime I have EVER prayed to him to
recover a lost article, sure enough, I would find it
within minutes. I would like to have a him with me at
all times, and think a tattoo is apropos. I only have
one other tattoo, a heart inside an achor, on my left
foot. I am extremely specific about placing, content
and size of tattoos. I do not necessarily want the

How do you remove pollen stains on cotton that are from the white lily flower?
the stamin in the lily is reddish, and the pollen, once on the fabric is yellowish.. I have tried dish soap, laundry soap, Shout stain remover.. To add to my latest collection are 2 pink cotton tops... thanks.

When I have had the stain on my white sink I sprayed it with Clorox CleanUp but that may be too harsh for the fabric.
As a last resort, you might try phoning a florist to ask how they have handled the problem. There may be a website for something like The Fabric Institute to help. As popular as this type of lily is, I doubt if you are the first with this problem.

*I* pour a drop or two of cheap bleach in the cap, then take a Q-tip and dip it in there, then dab that on the spot. Allow that to sit for a bit ( a minute or less) and launder. *I* use Gain liquid. It works everytime for me!

Jack John is weird because Jack is a short form of John, anyway. Its like calling a kid Geoff Geoffrey or Ben Benjamin. I think they should just have called him John Christopher Depp III and called him Jack for short so he didn't get mixed up with his dad. It would have made more sense.
As his gf is French and they live in France I'm surprised they didn't use more French sounding names actually.

There is no official confirmation of that story yet (as of 4am EST USA). Everybody is just repeating the source (The Mirror) and running with it.
I hope it is not true but if it is, I hope Lily-Rose will be OK.
That story is spreading like wild fire and now there is rumors that Vanessa is cancelling her tour. So it looks like there is something in it.

David pushes Nikki to set a date for their wedding but Nikki is still unsure about David's addiction and so continues to put him off.
Both Gloria and Kyon demand to know who the other is. Jeff hurries Kyon out the door, leaving Gloria stunned. Jeff immediately returns only to realize that Gloria is jealous and then to have her throw him out of the mansion.
Cane asks Lily if it's possible that she may be pregnant. Lily dismisses the notion. Cane is supportive, letting her know that he would be there if, by chance, she was pregnant. Lily panics at the thought of a child but agrees to buy a pregnancy test.
When Victor returns, Victoria and Adam battle for his attention first. Victoria comes out on top. Victoria tells Victor she would be pleased to have Sabrina and Victor working together. Later, Victoria tells Victor that the security breach has been handled and asks him to trust her.
Jeff tries to convince Kyon that they are finished and that she needs to go back to Korea, but she refuses to go anywhere.
Cane forgets about a meeting he has at Jabot and Lily assures him that she can buy the test on her own. Later, Devon and Lily get into a fight about Lily working too hard and Devon discovers Lily's pregnancy test. Devon doesn't let on that he has seen the test.

im looking for a restaurant that is surrounded by a pond, lily pond. i've been to one but forgotten how to get there. but along the way there are a few restaurants like that on the left and right of the highway. if im not mistaken, one of the restaurant is called Water Front and another is Water Side. Can some1 show me the way there? im a tourist and i do not speak thai. will there be taxis around? can i have the address or contact number as well?

How do I take care of a Fern and Peace Lily?
I just bought a fern and thought I could hang it outside on my balcony, but i noticed it started wilting and shriveling up. Where can i keep it in the apartment, how much water, and how much sunlight should it get?
My Peace Lily was just bought this past weekend at Ikea. It's HUGE! It's about 3 ft tall. Does it need a lot of sunlight inside? Does anyone know how much taller it's going to get?

The last name can not be Potter or Evans or Trusscot, if you're thinking about posting those. I really don't want to plagiarize, because I am writing a book and the main character's name is Lily. (Alternate spellings of "Lily" are also accepted, by the way.)

Don't you think Snape wouldn't care for Harry if not for Lily?
When you think about it, Snape only really cared for Harry because he loved Lily. When he found out that she was in danger, he went to Dumbledore. If Lily wasn't Harry's mother, he wouldn't care about Harry at all and would still be a Death Eater. Anyone agree?

Snape didn't benefit from those acts; he did them for Lily, a dead Lily, a Lily who didn't love him. I think it takes a good person to do that.
I think Harry named one of his sons for Snape because he realized that, not just because Snape loved his mother. Snape was brave, and he was brave at tremendous risk to himself. Does that count as true goodness? I'm not sure, but it's a goodness of some kind.

Remember what Dumbledore tells Harry after Sirius dies? "This shows that you are still a man. This pain is part of being human." The fact that we can love others is what makes us human. Think of the look on Snape's face after Lily is killed. He wishes he were dead. He doesn't want to go on. As someone already pointed out, he risked his life again and again for the son of a woman who chose to marry his childhood enemy instead of him.
Was it fair of him to judge Harry based on his father's actions? Of course not. But it was understandable, and that's the point of the whole series. It is our choices that show what we truly are. Snape chose to protect the son of the woman he loved, even though he hated the boy.
Is Snape perfect? Absolutely not. But he's not evil, either. He's simply human.

Snape became bitter over the fact that the girl he'd had a crush on since childhood had married his biggest tormenter. When Harry showed up at Hogwarts Snape probably felt slightly compelled to help Harry as Lily's son, but those feelings were drowned out by his bitterness towards Harry as James Potter's kid. In the end, though, it came out that Snape had been looking out for Harry, as Lily's son, from the start, but couldn't show it because of his reputation as an ex-Death Eater and the danger from Voldemort's other supporters.
